Bronze sculptures as
50th birthday gifts

Bronze sculptures make wonderful 50th birthday gifts, and a surprising number of people have chosen to give one to their partner - sometimes as a surprise.
What clients say

"...your Mother and Child are a joy forever, and almost part of the family. We can see them on the oak refectory table when we come into the house... As you said, there is not enough hugging in this world - our granddaughter, who has just learned to walk at age 15 months, says "'ug!".

Out of the blue...
One woman came to an exhibition of mine with her husband (quoted right), and he saw how much she loved the bronzes. Months later, when her 50th birthday arrived, she was brought up from London - not knowing where she was going - to visit me in Norwich.

She was overjoyed when she was able to choose a sculpture, because she had secretly hoped she might be given one, but not thought it possible. It was a very touching moment to see her immense surprise and pleasure.

Laura's Birthday
I very rarely take on commissions, but I have one long-standing client who has been very supportive over nearly 20 years. When he called to ask for a bronze of the Mother and Child sculpture as a surprise 50th birthday present for his wife, I offered to do a piece especially for her.

Laura's Birthday I wanted to capture the same sentiment as the original piece, but with three children - since they have three - two boys and a girl. I also added medium length hair like his wife's.

It wasn't easy, and I didn't get the right feel until the second attempt. What with the false start, and the time that casting takes, the sculpture was only just ready the weekend before the important birthday.

This client is a charming man but a great straight talker so I daren't repeat what he said I'd be 'deeply in' if the work were not ready on time...

Fortunately his wife loved her 50th birthday gift, which I named 'Laura's Birthday'.
