Sculpture News: Vanessa Pooley, Issue #016 - Working On A New Piece
November 03, 2010
Hello,

Watching New Work Dry

Well the larger acrobatic figure I talked about in my previous newsletter is now finished - thanks especially to various friends who helped me gently turn it over and back to enable work from underneath.

Now I am watching it dry prior to firing. Clay can shrink considerably from its wet workable state to dry enough to fire. This one has already shrunk an inch in height since I finished it. Now at 26.75 inches I just need it to be another half inch smaller to fit it into my friend Robin Daunceys kiln for firing. His kiln height measures 26.25 inches.

I'll be taking photos of it for the website only once it is safely fired...

New Shows

News of two shows opening in November. One in Norwich and the other in Guildford. Both exhibitions are in modern buildings. Chalk Hill Contemporary Art exhibits from a modernist home on the edge of Guildford town.

Designed with masses of glass, clear lines and lots of light its a fantastic place to show. I will be exhibiting there with Pamela Scott Wilkie whose work is on paper. See the events page for details and Chalk Hill website.

At Steeles Law, the law firm in south Norwich, Mary Mellor and I have been given a free hand to put our work throughout the offices. My sculptures are mostly in the reception and hall whilst Mary's paintings and constructions are also in the conference rooms. (see Mary Mellor website)

Sadly for me both shows open on the same day, the 12th, so I shall not be able to attend in Guildford. Meanwhile if you would like an invitation or ticket for either show or private view just let me know and I will send you one.

Wishing you all the best for the Autumn,

Vanessa.
