Sculpture News: Vanessa Pooley, Issue #011 - Royal Academy Exhibition May 29, 2009 |
| Hello, I have just heard that I didn't get into the Royal Academy's Summer Exhibition this year. My work was 'selected' but not 'hung', the same as last year... Oh well, there's always next time.... I am thinking now about an idea for a new big sculpture. There is a competition called 'Artiststakethelead'. Nine areas in the UK are each to have a large work commissioned as part of the Cultural Olympiad. I don't normally go for these things, but what with my interest in bodies, sport and the local area I feel that this is just right for me. My working title is 'FLOW' (Fat Lady Of Whitlingham). She would be enormous - walkable-under - and form a bridge over the path near the sailing centre at Whitlingham Country Park. Her pose would be a version of 'Our World', one of my recent sculptures. The first stage of this project needs to be in soon so I need to write the proposal now - far from my favourite bit... 400 words. Anyway, if you go to the Royal Academy show, check out how many sculptures are from non RA's for me, won't you? Normally there is not a great deal of sculpture on show and even less from the 1000 or so open submission (ie non- Royal Academicians). New Work On My WebsiteIn the meantime, visit my web site if you would like to see some of my most recent sculptures. Click here to see Our World and 4C... ...and here are clay sculptures that are dried but still unfired clay and not yet cast in bronze.
