After Botero - Large Uncast Garden Sculpture

After Botero, sculpture inspired by Ferdinand Botero

The work of famous sculptor Ferdinand Botero inspired this piece, and so I named it after him.

I love this artist's work and so his name was a natural choice for this almost lifesize sculpture. At first it was called 'Lady with Blobby Hair - After Botero', but now the name has settled at simply 'After Botero'(100l x 25 33cm).

Ferdinand Botero is well known for both his paintings and sculpture. He is one of my favourite living artists and I try to get to see his work when I can. His enormous bronzes have been displayed in busy, outdoor locations like the Champs Elysee in Paris. More recently he has been painting and exhibiting strong, angry paintings criticising the torture of prisoners in Iraq.

Humour and kindness

I hope this piece of mine captures the light touch Botero uses on his enormous nude bronze sculptures. I found this pose in one of his paintings on a postcard, and it's the first time I have used such a direct influence from another artist's work.

I am fond of this outdoor sculpture. It lies in a special place in my garden under the magnolia tree where we can see it from our living room.

I hope I have passed on some of the humour and kindness to this sculpture and that Ferdinand Botero would not mind my being inspired by his work. If you're interested in having this piece cast in bronze, do get in touch for a quote.
