New Contemporary Sculptures In 2009

Here are two new contemporary sculptures I have completed lately.

Our World

Our World

'Our World' is a continuation of my Back Flip series. I dream of being able to do a proper back flip - unaided... but it remains only a dream. So I decided to sculpt it instead... In my dream there is a feeling of travelling over fast, as when doing a cart-wheel - which I can do - if rather feebly! This small bronze has more a sense of being poised. Why 'Our World'? I've been thinking a lot about climate change and human use of the earth's limited resources. Our world, so full of potential and so finely in balance - it's up to all of us to allow it to stay that way.

4C - new contemporary sculptures by Vanessa Pooley

4 C

This new sculpture has the name '4 C' because of who commissioned its casting in bronze. A friend - Christine - visited my studio and spotted the finished ceramic of this sculpture. She asked me to have it cast for her in bronze. She has just become a grandmother and is so excited and proud!

I do make more work than I can afford to cast and find it hard to decide which to have cast in bronze. Sometimes a clients nudge towards a particular one is very helpful. But I'm not sure this name will stick. Anyone any better suggestions? Let me know please!

In 2009, I also submitted a proposal for the Artists Take The Lead project. It was not successful, unfortunately. Click here to see my submission.
